Rapid commenced work on this project for the University in September 2011. The work involved the removal of all terracotta roof tiles, eaves and gutters and replacement like-with-like. Existing sarking and battens were replaced with new battens and membranes and the existing trusses were modified to suit cross section areas for box gutters. Lead-based and kalsomine paint was removed from roof lantern windows and repainted as specified by the client. Extensive degraded copper rainwater goods were renewed and correct falls achieved. Degraded timber and ACM fascias and associated ceiling linings were replaced. Temporary removal of air conditioning infrastructure allowed for replacement of degraded timber supports with durable non-timber supports, neoprene soakers and associated flashing. Located directly opposite one of the busiest entrypoints to the campus, the project presented our team with significant access restrictions however the project was delivered to an extremely high standard of safety and environmental compliance, well ahead of schedule and despite inclement weather.
