Bathurst Courthouse

Rapid commenced work on Bathurst Courthouse in January 2021. We worked closely with Heritage Stoneworks, the Heritage Asset Advisory, a Heritage Architect and a Heritage Engineer in the design and deployment of extensive remedial, stabilisation and preservation works encompassing the Courthouse, the Museum Wing, and the Conservatorium Wing (originally Post Office and Telegraph Office). Works included brick stitching, brick re-pointing, seismic stabilisation and strengthening of chimneys, render replacement, painting, sandstone replacement, synthetic stone repairs, strengthening works to roof structures, lead and copper work to the dome and bell tower, reproduction of copper gargoyles, galvanised roof sheeting replacement, design and production of replacement decorative timber finials and cast iron scroll work, and the installation of bird-proofing systems. All work was carried out while the asset continued normal operations as a functioning courthouse. The project achieved Highly Commended status in the 2022 National Trust Heritage Awards Conservation – Built Heritage category.
