Situated in the Sydney Yard immediately west of Central Station and adjacent to the suburban line flying junction, this building was in need of some TLC having been vacated due to hazardous materials and structural deterioration. Accessible only by crossing the rail track servicing platform 15, all workers required track awareness training – Rapid deployed personnel from its dedicated rail team who all have Rail Industry Safety Induction and are familiar with working on and near the danger zone and under the instruction and guidance of Protection Officers.

We removed redundant services and equipment while also safeguarding and preserving industrial machinery and equipment of Heritage value to the client, as well as internal and external patching of walls and brickwork and significant repairs to the roof including replacement of box gutters and rainwater goods. All original double-hung timber sash windows were repaired, re-glazed where required, repainted and then reinstated. Like-for-like carpentry methods and materials were used to ensure original timber features including doors retained their as-built style. Finally a full external clean by our specialist subcontractor, using high-pressure hot water and environmentally low-impact natural cleaning products, permitted the non-invasive and non-destructive removal of graffiti, grime and bituminous substances applied in times past, allowing the original 1930s structure to reveal its true colours once more.

The structure has since been demolished to make way for Sydney Metro South West works.
